(Shades Mountain Indep. Missions Team)
GlobeWorks International July 2008 newsletter: GWI missionary family candidates to the Dominican Republic, Brad and Brooke Jenkins hosted and led a U.S. team of 26 to our 2 acre orphanage site in the Black Water slums of Puerto Plata in the D. R... Casa Tesoro de Dios (God's Treasure House). Along with GWI missionaries, Luke and Naomi Milam's team of 7 from their church also, in the Dominican this month, the joint GlobeWorks' taskforce ministered the Gospel (in Spanish/English) to hundreds of slum children and unwed mothers... Also, the Americans brought clothing, shoes, food supplies, plumbing/electrical equipment, landscaping supplies and paint crews to Casa Tesoro's orphanage.
The above excerpt is from GWI's newsletter. The picture is almost our entire team less a few that had to leave early. This was the 2nd trip to the Dominican Republic for Brad and I. We first began praying about God's call to full-time missions in the DR in February of this year. Our 1st mission/discovery trip was in May 08.

Believing God was still leading us to this orphanage after our initial trip, we took the group mentioned earlier on July 3, 2008. The group left us and headed home on the 9th and we stayed on with our children, Jaden, Jake & Abie Lynn until July 17th. It was a wonderful time of God confirming in our hearts that this is were we belonged in ministry. However, the GWI board still wanted to hear from me after our trip before accepting us as their full-time missionaries to Casa Tesoro de Dios Orphanage, Dominican Republic. On August 1st I am happy to report we were confirmed and hired!!What does this mean for us now. Well first of all we are being sent to the orphanage to do several things. They are: First, to be the House Parent/Directors of Casa Tesoro de Dios. Secondly, we will be involved in the leadership and support of the current staff(pictured above), as well as, the spiritual discipleship of the boys and eventually girls in the orphanage. It is also the desire of GWI that we plant an evangelical church in the village of 9000 were we will be living. Brad along with pastor Joel Pena, will be planning and hosting 2-3 Pastor's Conferences each year. The first was held this past February and had about 160 Dominican Pastors in attendance. Lastly, we will be coordinating mission teams from around the world, who desire to serve the people of the Dominican Republic.
We are now in the beginning phases of support raising. In this position we are required to raise
our entire monthly salary of $4000 per month. This amount is before taxes, social security and health insurance. We are asking everyone to partner with us in two ways. First is by your support in prayer. We have a transition period ahead of us as we move into full-time mission work and support raising and as I prepare myself for homeschooling. We also ask for prayer for our home to sell quickly in a difficult market and that our support would come in quickly so we may begin our next season of ministry. Finally we would ask you to prayerfully consider supporting our family each month, quarterly or annually. Our target date for departure is January 1, 2009. We trust that God will use us both to make a difference in Javillar, Puerto Plata, and the Dominican Republic.
